The New York Liberty made history by being the first WNBA team to issue non-fungible tokens in the form of digital art.

The NFT will be released on May 7 in time for the Liberty’s season opener versus the Connecticut Sun.

“I believe we strive to be innovative at all times. We like to take the lead and believe that we should be taking the lead in New York “Keia Clarke, Liberty’s CEO, said after practice earlier this week. “We have ownership’s support and a truly unique proposal to complete our scheduled rollout.”

When the NFTs are issued, there will be 400 of them with similar designs but each with its own unique serial number. Throughout the season, the Liberty hope to do more of these.

“This is the first in the series; I’m not sure how the remainder will turn out.” “Clarke remarked. “There will be a few surprises in store as a result of this decrease. Because the NFTs are serialized, you can get a reward based on the amount of NFTs you buy.”

Pre-ordering a ticket to the opening game through a specific website is the only way to receive one of the NFTs.

The nail art that was previewed in the franchise’s schedule announcement inspired the design, which was designed by the Liberty’s in-house marketing team.

“NFTs are the future of one-of-a-kind collectibles, and this limited-edition release honors the convergence of nail art culture and sports through the eyes of the New York Liberty.” Clarke stated, “A lot of our players get their nails done.” “We noticed Betnijah (Laney) had her nails painted in the colors of the New York Liberty.”

The WNBA released its first NFTs last fall, and all of the league’s packs were sold out.
